Inventory, Fruit Roll-Ups & Future Entrepreneurs

"Inventory, Fruit Roll-Ups & Future Entrepreneurs"

Day 1 of inventory has officially begun, and my oldest son Gregory proved to be an organizing machine. I showed him the ropes—log each candy’s batch and lot number into our POS system, along with quantity on hand—and without missing a beat, he turned on some music and got right to work.

Being the meticulous thinker he is, Gregory asked lots of questions, double-checked numbers, and made sure each candy was labeled just right. He even did his own version of quality control (aka, sampling), and decided that freeze-dried Fruit Roll-Ups are definitely his favorite.

Day 2 was all about earrings. Gregory started the process, but my youngest son, Wyatt, naturally took over. He grouped the designs, took photos, uploaded them, priced them, and kept everything neat and eye-catching. While Gregory loves numbers and structure, Wyatt has a talent for visual presentation and style. It’s clear each of them has a unique role to play in this business—and I’m here for all of it.

We ended the night with dinner and a show, then scheduled more inventory dates. Wyatt shared that he wants to sell his handcrafted woodwork in the future (proud mom moment), and Gregory admitted he’s nervous about talking to customers. He much prefers inventory and production. I reminded him we all have to learn the full picture of the business—but I also see his strengths shining already.

Our goal is to be at farmers markets by mid-April. Insurance quotes are rolling in by April 11, and I’ve got an attorney making sure we’re fully set up.

This is what building Fire and Frost Bites looks like—messy, exciting, full of snacks and late-night talks. And I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
